Description

Join this 90 minute session to explore the effective communication requirements under the ADA. The session will examine issues related to providing effective communication including how to assess what is considered “effective” and setting up procedures for requesting auxiliary aids and services. The session will examine requirements for providing interpreters, both on-site and through Video Remote Interpreting (VRI). Other types of technologies will be covered, as well. Proactive steps to meet effective communication obligations will be discussed along with real-life scenarios and examples.

Questions for presenters:

1 Given that TTYs have been almost entirely replaced by videophones, is there a preferred way to indicate that VP users are welcome to call your office's voice number using VRS? My goal is to make sure Deaf callers know we're reachable and reasonably well-prepared to interact, but not create the impression that there will necessarily be a VP and a signing staff member in every office to take calls directly.
2 What are some good ways to get introverted participants to become more vocal during workshops?
